Rob McCarthy

Rob McCarthy graduated from Michaelhouse School in 1984. He then went on to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Law at the University of Natal, Durban in 1988 and his LLB at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg in 1990.

After travelling extensively around the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States, he returned home to Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, in January 1993.

Mr. McCarthy did his articles at Shepstone & Wylie Tomlinsons in Pietermaritzburg from July 1994 until June 1996 when he passed his bar exams and qualified as an attorney. He then worked at Shepstone & Wylie Tomlinsons until June 1998.

Mr. McCarthy worked as the Legal advisor for the Department of Health in KwaZulu-Natal from July 1998 until May 2001, while at the same time acting for his own clients as a labour and land law specialist. In May 2001, he left the Department of Health to be able to devote his full attention to his clients.

Heinz Kuhn

Heinz Kuhn graduated from Gert Maritz High School in Pietermaritzburg in 1978, and then attended the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, where he completed his B.Iuris Degree during 1981. During 1982 to 1984 he did post-graduate studies, before completing his compulsory military training.

Mr. Kuhn was subsequently employed with the Department of Justice for a period of 20 years as District and Regional Court Prosecutor, Control Prosecutor in the District Court and Regional Courts, whereafter he was promoted to Magistrate during 1988, a position he filled until his resignation at the end of 1998.

He was also appointed to the SA Law Commission Project Committee on Domestic Violence, and also assisted with several other investigations into legislative reform, such as the Maintenance and Juvenile Justice Act.

He subsequently acted as Labour Consultant to the Departments of Health, Transport and Education, before being appointed as a Deputy Director in the Department of Education during August 2000, and subsequently as a Director: Legal Services in the Provincial Government. Mr. Kuhn joined the firm as a paralegal during 1999.
